Privacy Policy
Draft — under legal review. This page says, in plain language, what we actually do. Counsel may tighten the wording; the promises will not get weaker.
What we collect
When you subscribe, we store your email address and a timestamp of the consent box you checked — the box is never pre-checked for you. Once issues are being sent, we also see the basic engagement numbers any mailing service reports: whether an issue was opened and which links were clicked. That's used to make the newsletter better, not to build a profile of you.
What we never do
We never sell your address. We never rent it, trade it, or share it with anyone for their marketing. The list exists to send you one email on Sunday morning, and that is the whole business model of the list.
Who touches the data
Issues are delivered through an email service provider, which processes addresses on our behalf and under our instructions — the standard arrangement for any mailing list. If we open the coffee store, orders will run through a payment processor and we will update this policy before we collect anything new. We do not see or store card numbers, ever.
Leaving is one click
Every issue carries an unsubscribe link at the bottom. It works in one click, it works immediately, and there is no "are you sure" gauntlet on the other side of it.
Deleting is one more click
Unsubscribing stops the emails but keeps your record — the address, when you signed up, and the IP address you signed up from — because that record is how we know not to email you. If you want it gone as well, the unsubscribe page has a link that deletes it. It is immediate and it cannot be undone.
One thing can survive it, and only one. If your address was suppressed — because you reported us as spam, or because your mail server rejected us permanently — we keep a one-way fingerprint of the address, not the address itself, so that signing up again cannot put you back on a list you told us to take you off. The page that deletes your data says so at the time, and names what was kept.
