Honesty with receipts
Our editorial standards
A useful discovery deserves context. A reader deserves to know what supports it.
Who we serve
The Week, Brewed is for curious readers who want to understand healthier, longer lives and the technology changing what is possible. Longevity and technology are our two themes. Healthspan, genomics, CRISPR, biotechnology, wearables and AI-enabled discoveries connect them.
Who is accountable
Eric Warriner is the publisher. Each Sunday Journal edition names its responsible editor and discloses relevant interests. Expert review is credited only when it actually occurred, with the reviewer’s relevant expertise stated beside the story.
How we use AI
AI helps gather and draft material. Source-fidelity checks compare claims with their cited material; they cannot establish that a source is correct or that a study is sound. A human edits and approves the edition before publication. AI does not conduct interviews or hands-on product testing on our behalf.
How we report research
Research stories identify the finding, organisms or participants, study scale, material limitations, publication status, source type and funding when established. Missing information is stated. We distinguish computer predictions, laboratory and animal results, observational studies, clinical trials and regulatory decisions. Peer review and independent replication are separate questions.
How we assess a discovery
We seek original papers, trial records and regulator documents, plus independent expert context. We describe associations accurately, give absolute effects or risks when established, and put a result beside earlier evidence. Negative and inconclusive findings belong in the coverage. A biomarker change does not establish longer life, and a prediction does not establish experimental success.
How we preserve source independence
Multiple feeds can repeat the same announcement. Editors trace the underlying paper or announcement, identify the source type and seek independent context. A source count is a coverage signal, not a count of independently replicated findings. The knowledge library retains each source observation and links our published coverage.
Our original contribution
Each Sunday Journal edition requires at least one credited analysis, interview, comparison or follow-up. The credit explains who performed the work and how. Interviews are credited only after they take place. Device comparisons distinguish actual testing from a comparison of published specifications and describe the test method and commercial relationships.
Commercial independence
Relevant funding, sponsorship, affiliate links, supplied products and other material relationships must be disclosed. A sponsor cannot purchase a scientific conclusion or editorial approval. An absence of a recorded relationship is never evidence that a study has none.
Corrections and uncertainty
Published issues retain their original text. Corrections are appended prominently and travel with the issue. We revisit developing stories when evidence changes. Please contact the editor with the story link, the disputed claim and supporting material.
